"A Day in history": Zabian Dowdell's record for assists in European competition

On October 28, 2015, Zenit played an away game against Hungarian team Szolnoki Olaj. The match took place as part of the regular EuroCup season and ended in a victory for the blue-whites with a score of 84:75.

The hero of the match was St. Petersburg’s guard Zabian Dowdell, who scored 24 points and made 14 assists, setting a record for assists in EuroCup games for Zenit. For his outstanding performance, the American basketball player was named MVP of the third round of the EuroCup regular season.

In the 2015-16 season, Dowdell and the team won bronze in both the VTB United League and the Russian Championship, and they also reached the national Сup final. By the end of the season, Zabian led the team in assists, averaging 5.4 per game across all competitions.

Later in his career, the guard played for Italy’s Cantù and Pistoia Basket, France’s Champagne Châlons-Reims and Russia’s Enisey Krasnoyarsk. Zabian Dowdell retired in 2020, finishing his career with German team Rasta Vechta.
