Sergey Karasev: "Thanks to the fans for these ten years together"
Zenit captain Sergey Karasev shared his emotions after the away victory over MBA-MAI (68:89) in an interview with Zenit-TV and thanked the fans who support the blue-whites team at every away game.
— What was it like to play today when nothing was clear until the fourth quarter?
— We know that MBA plays fast, aggressive basketball with a lot of three-point shots. In the first half and the third quarter, we made some defensive mistakes and had a bit of miscommunication. The guys managed to hit some fast-break threes, and because of that, they got back into the game and even took the lead for a while. But then we pulled ourselves together, eliminated those mistakes at the end. Georgy played really well defensively, grabbed some important rebounds. Dwayne and Xavier played great offense and scored. Congratulations to everyone on the win!
— Did you manage to exchange a few words with your father? Did he congratulate you on the victory?
— We always communicate, we always talk. He congratulated me on the win, and I congratulated him on the good game they showed. We stay in touch all the time, constantly supporting each other.
— You presented a very nice banner to the fans today. Can you tell us about the idea behind it? Is it dedicated to the anniversary of the fan movement?
— Of course. The guys have been supporting us for ten years. There are also some who almost never miss away games. And that’s really nice because, no matter how many of them there are — 5, 10 — it’s always very heartwarming. This support is so important when we hear the fans cheering for us from the stands. A huge thank you to them for that.
— How hard is it now, with no return to St. Petersburg and still three more days before heading back?
— Actually, before this, we had Saratov and Astana. It’s been a tough month, mainly because of so many away games and no home games. You’re constantly flying in and out, always on planes, playing every three days. The main task right now is to recover and get fully prepared to give it our all against PARMA, so we can go on a well-deserved break and catch our breath.
