Sani Becirovic appointed as Zenit’s Sports Director

Zenit Basketball Club announces the appointment of Sani Becirovic as the new Sports Director. The two sides have signed a three-year contract, running until the end of the 2027/28 season.

Sani Becirovic is a Slovenian professional with extensive experience in basketball. During his playing career, he represented Slovenia at all age levels and played for top European clubs, including CSKA Moscow, Italy’s Virtus Bologna, Armani Milano, Benetton Treviso, as well as the Greek Panathinaikos, with whom he won the EuroLeague title in the 2006/07 season.

After retiring as a player, Becirovic successfully transitioned into management roles. He spent one season with Panathinaikos as a Team Manager & Assistant General Manager, and later served as the Sports Director of Slovenian club Cedevita Olimpija from 2019 to 2023. During his tenure, the Ljubljana-based team won the Slovenian League, Cup and Supercup twice each, and reached the ABA League semifinals on two occasions.

In 2023, Sani Becirovic returned to Panathinaikos as Technical Director. He faced the challenge of rebuilding the squad almost from scratch, with only two players remaining under contract. Nevertheless, in his debut 2023/24 season, Becirovic led Panathinaikos to the EuroLeague title — their first since 2011. In addition, the team won the Greek League (2023/24) and the Greek Cup (2024/25).
