Zenit's second team will host Chelbasket
Zenit-2 recently played three consecutive away games in the Super League and Russian Cup, and now returns to its home arena for an exciting matchup against Chelbasket. These teams have only met twice before, with each side claiming a win, making the current score 1:1. Now is the perfect time for Oliver Popovic’s squad to pull ahead.
Chelbasket from Chelyabinsk started the season with a loss to Dynamo Vladivostok, but rebounded with a four-game winning streak. In the Super League, they defeated Irkut, Tambov and CSKA-2, and they also bested Kupol-Rodniki in the Russian Cup. Perhaps part of their success comes from having played all these games at home. Now, Mikhail Terekhov’s team will embark on their first road game of the season.
Over the summer, the visiting team went through a significant roster overhaul, retaining only two players from last season. This entirely new squad has gelled quickly, showcasing impressive results. Currently, Chelbasket’s top scorers are Alexander Levnikov (13.6 points per game) and Andrey Toptunov (11.8 points), with forward Andrey Semyonov ranking among the league's top seven rebounders, averaging 7.8 rebounds per game.
Zenit-2 head coach Oliver Popovic about the game against Chelbasket:
After three away games, we’ve had a chance to conduct several training sessions, which are crucial for this young team. I hope we’re ready for the game against Chelbasket. I invite fans to come out and support us!
The game will take place on October 29 at Zenit Basketball Academy (Severnaya Road, 12), with a start time of 18:00 St. Petersburg time. Admission is free for all fans, and the game will be broadcast on the Russian Basketball Federation website.
