Andrey Vorontsevich joins Zenit!
Andrey Vorontsevich was born on July 17, 1987, in Omsk, Russia. His professional career began in 2005 when he joined the basketball club Lokomotiv Novosibirsk. Soon, Vorontsevich moved to CSKA Moscow, where he spent the next 14 years from 2006 to 2020.
At CSKA, Andrey achieved numerous successes, including three Euroleague titles (2008, 2016, 2019) and nine VTB United League championship titles. Throughout his career at CSKA, Vorontsevich became one of the key players, known for his high scoring, reliable defense, and leadership qualities. He also became the record holder for the most matches played for the club.
In addition to his club achievements, the forward has significant experience playing for the Russian National Team. He debuted for the National Team in 2007 and has since become an essential part of it. With the team, Vorontsevich won bronze medals at the 2011 European Championship and the 2012 London Olympics. His contributions to the team's successes have always been highly valued, and he has repeatedly been recognized as one of the best players in the country.
After his contract with CSKA ended in 2020, Vorontsevich's club career paused for a while. He continued training individually, regularly joining the National Team camps as captain and delivering excellent performances. In March 2021, he joined Pari Nizhny Novgorod for the final stage of the season, reaching the VTB United League Playoffs and the Champions League Final Eight.
In the summer of 2021, the Russian forward moved to UNICS Kazan, where he spent the next two seasons. During this time, his already extensive collection of awards grew with a bronze medal in the VTB League (2022) and then gold (2023).
Vorontsevich's performance in his first season with Kazan included averages of 7.5 points (40% two-pointers and 39.6% three-pointers), 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. In the championship season, he averaged 3.6 points (53.2% two-pointers, 30.8% three-pointers), 2.2 rebounds, and 1 assist in an average of 14:55 minutes on the court.
In the 2023/24 season, the forward started again with Nizhny Novgorod but returned to UNICS on loan before the VTB United League Playoffs, reaching the League finals for the second consecutive year.
In the recently concluded championship, Vorontsevich played 23 matches for Nizhny, averaging 11.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. For UNICS, he participated in 17 games, contributing 5 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per match.
