Andrey Vorontsevich: "The season will be very interesting"
Andrey Vorontsevich was one of the first Zenit players to undergo the in-depth medicals and is already fully ready to start the training process. The forward spoke about how he spent the summer and shared his expectations for the upcoming season.
— Andrey, we’re glad to see you after the long offseason. How did you spend the summer?
— It was a wonderful summer, truly great. I spent it with my family in the Moscow region, in Moscow. Didn’t travel anywhere, didn’t visit other regions. I spent time with my kids, trained, and got an incredible boost from being with my loved ones. I trained all summer long, practically without breaks. I was preparing for the season. Now summer is coming to an end — as Sofia Rotaru sang, "summer has gone". Of course, calendar summer isn’t over yet, but we are already gradually getting into the rhythm. Ahead of us is preseason preparation. Individual training is nothing like playing five-on-five. Now we’ll start building the roster. We have a new coaching staff. We’ll be studying new plays and a new system in depth. I think this season will be very interesting.

— Each position will surely have its own leaders. You and Georgy Zhbanov played on the same team with super-Neno. There’s also a strong block of players from Krasnodar. Does this mean it won’t take long for the team to build chemistry?
— I really want to see super-Neno in action. For the guys who have already worked with Aleksander Sekulic, it’ll probably be a little easier. But at the same time, harder — because the coach will surely demand a deeper understanding from them. Everyone on the team is a professional, I have no doubts about anyone. Everyone will get into rhythm and adapt quickly. We’ll help the newcomers adjust. I’m confident that the chemistry will be good. I wish everyone good health and a season without injuries. We understand that now everyone wants to show themselves, to prove and demonstrate to the coaches and the club. Right now, it’s important to enter the season as wisely and smartly as possible. We need to understand that we’re building a new team, developing new team chemistry.

— Can you imagine what Zenit’s playing style will look like?
— If we play team basketball, for each other, and not just chase stats, then we’ll get results. First and foremost, we need to think about the team.
