Andre Roberson: «We need to keep this up, and we’ll be in good shape»
Zenit BC forward talked about the offseason, the team’s chemistry, and how he spent his summer weekend.
— Andre, how are you feeling after practice?
— I want to say that practices are great. Yes, it’s only the first week, but it’s absolutely wonderful. New guys are being added, Nate has arrived. So, things are getting better every day, the rhythm and chemistry. We’re trying to build a great group within the team.
— Today, team is at full strength — am I right?
— Full strength? Yes, I think so. All the guys are finally here in their positions. Of course, it’s much more interesting this way; it gives us the opportunity to change some parts of the game and become more cohesive as a team.
— You’re one of the most experienced players on Zenit’s roster.
— And Alex.
— Of course, and Alex too. How do you envision our team?
— We’ve only just gotten together, and it’s hard to say right now. However, we have a great group of players.
— You’ve been training for a week now.
— Yes, but this is our first day with the full roster. Of course, everyone listens to the requirements and learns quickly, acquiring the necessary skills. It’s easy when you have teammates like that. We need to keep it up, and I think we’ll be in good shape.
— This summer, you celebrated your NBA title with the New York Knicks. You were spotted on the championship bus. How did that happen?
— Jordan Clarkson is my childhood friend. We grew up together, we’ve known each other since the second or third grade.
— Was everyone supportive of the idea?
— Yes, of course. We played on the same team in middle school, then high school. We wanted to go to college together later, but it didn’t work out. And it was always a special moment, because we’re like family. We once discussed that one of us should win a championship and experience victory, but I couldn’t do it on my own. When he asked me if I wanted to attend the parade, it was a special moment on his part purely for him. Of course, I happily joined.
— How long did the championship parade last?
— I think about 35-40 minutes. It was amazing, unforgettable! It was cool to see the winners so close, despite what they’d done. A real treat.
— Final question. One thing you can’t imagine basketball without?
— One thing I can’t imagine basketball without... Traveling.
— Traveling?
— Yes, that’s a good answer?
— Excellent! Did you know we’re going to Vladivostok?
— Yes, an eight-hour flight. So yes, traveling!
