Zenit-2 will play first home quarterfinal match of the Super League

March 30, 2025

The 2024/25 Fonbet Super League season for the blue-whites team began with a match against Novosibirsk. Their first away game of the new calendar year took them to the Siberian capital. It is no surprise that Zenit-2 faces this same team at the start of the playoffs.

Andrey Yendropov’s squad finished the regular season in fifth place, securing 18 wins and suffering 12 losses. This strong performance was largely thanks to a powerful February run, during which Novosibirsk won six consecutive games, including victories over the regular-season champion Temp-SUMZ and last year’s Super League winner, Vladivostok’s Dynamo.

The most productive player on the opposing team is Curtis White. The American guard participated in all regular-season games, averaging 12.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 31 minutes per match.

Zenit-2 faces a tough opponent in the quarterfinals, ensuring that these matches will be far from an easy walk.

In Super League history, the teams have met six times, with the head-to-head score currently tied at 3:3. However, Zenit-2 won both encounters this season — 85:69 at home and 66:73 away. The quarterfinal series follows a best-of-five format (2+2+1). The first two games, as well as a potential fifth match, will take place in St. Petersburg since Zenit-2 finished higher in the standings.

Blue-whites head coach Oliver Popovic — about the start of the playoffs:

The playoffs are beginning, and we are up against a very strong and experienced team. In the next eight days, we will find out if we are in the medal race this year. Tough games against Novosibirsk await us.

The first match is set for tomorrow, March 31, at the Basketball Academy (Severnaya Road, 12). Tip-off is at 18:00 St. Petersburg time. Admission for fans is free, and the game will be streamed on the Russian Basketball Federation’s website.
