Alexey Shved: "I have the highest expectations from joining Zenit"
Zenit newcomer Alexey Shved gave his first interview to the club's press service, where he spoke about moving to St. Petersburg and choosing his jersey number. The guard also expressed his desire to meet the blue-whites fans as soon as possible and shared his impressions of starting work with the team.
— Alexey, we’re happy to welcome you to Zenit. Was it a tough decision to join the club?
— I’m happy to be here too. Honestly, everything happened very quickly. We made the decision within a few days. I came here, and I’m glad to help the team.
— You’ve played against Zenit many times, and we fondly recall some of those matches. For example, did the seven-game final series in 2022 cross your mind before signing?
— Honestly, there were many moments when we played against Zenit. Zenit always played great, and it was never easy — there were no simple games. I know many of the guys here. I didn’t dwell on specific matches, but I know the club always takes things seriously. I have the highest expectations, and I’m happy to be here. I also know coach Xavi Paslual, one of the best coaches in Europe.
— Is there one particular game that stands out for you?
— There were many. The seven-game series, the five-game series — we faced Zenit a lot in the playoffs. Sometimes things went well, sometimes not, but it was always a great experience.
— There is no time to rock up. Have you spoken with the coach, and are you ready to quickly learn Xavi’s playbook and schemes?
— Yes, I’ve already looked at a few plays. There’s no time, but I don’t think it will be a big issue. One play can branch into many options. I just spoke with Xavi, and I think I’ll have everything down soon.
— How closely have you followed Zenit this season? Can you point out any highlights?
— I watched games and saw that the guys are strong and play great basketball. There’s opportunity to play even better, so I’m motivated and ready. It’s a strong team, as always, and everything is super professional.
— What would you like to say to Zenit fans who are eagerly awaiting your debut?
— I’m also looking forward to meeting them. The fans here are really loud. Every game I’ve played here was in an incredible atmosphere. So, I’m very excited to meet them. See you all very soon.
— If it’s not a secret, why did you choose number 2?
— Oh, you you immediately ask such questions! I’d like to answer that in more detail later. Actually, the numbers I’ve worn before were already taken. I thought about it and decided on number 2. Plus, my dad’s birthday is on January 2, and I’ve never worn this number before.
