Alex Poythress stays at Zenit!
Zenit extended the contract with Alex Poythress under a "1+1" scheme. The updated agreement with the center will run through the end of the 2025/26 season, with an option to extend for one more year.
Alex Poythress played for Zenit from 2020 to 2022 and returned to St. Petersburg last summer. The upcoming season will be his fourth with the Blue-White-Sky Blues. During his time with the club, he became a VTB United League and Russian Championship winner, claimed the Kondrashin and Belov Cup twice, and also earned silver and bronze medals in the United League and Supercup. In the championship-winning 2021/22 season, Poythress was named the VTB League's MVP for February.
Alex currently ranks 7th in club history for most games played, having appeared in 169 matches for Zenit — the highest among all foreign players.
In addition, Poythress is among the top three scorers in the club’s history. The American center has tallied 1659 points — trailing only Trent Frazier (1936) and Sergey Karasev (3162).
In the recently concluded 2024/25 season, he played in all 60 regular season and playoff games, averaging 9.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, 0.7 steals and 0.4 assists in 19 minutes per match.
Zenit Basketball Club congratulates Alex on his contract extension and wishes him more victories and new trophies with the Blue-White-Sky Blues!
