The youth team defeats TSSP-Khimki-2 in the second game
Zenit U21 wrapped up their home series of games with a clash against TSSP-Khimki-2. The matches of the latest round of the VTB United Youth League were held on December 14 and 15 at the Basketball Academy court.
The first game went to the visitors, ending in a 72:78 loss for Zenit U21. The most productive player for the blue-whites in that game was Egor Evstafiev, who scored 23 points, along with 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 block.
On the second game day, Zenit U21 managed to turn the match around in the final stretch. Trailing for most of the game, the St. Petersburg team dominated the final quarter with an 18-point advantage and secured a 74:61 victory. Evstafiev was once again the standout player, this time contributing 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks to his team's performance.
Roman Knyazev, head coach of Zenit U21:
We had a mixed series. Unfortunately, we sometimes experience emotional collapses, and we need to address and eliminate these slumps. However, I am glad that we continue to believe in each other and find ways to overcome the challenges we create for ourselves. I am grateful to the guys and respect their character and resilience. These qualities help us stay on track and work on our weaknesses.
Pavel Logunov, guard of Zenit U21:
The games were not easy, Khimki came after two victories. We set up for both games the same way, but in the first one we didn't do much. We missed a lot of shots, couldn't get our own attempts. We came to the second game more confident, the coach tuned us up. We did everything that was required of us and took the match.
Zenit U21 will play their next games on December 24 and 25, away against Moscow's MBA-MAI-Junior.
