The reserve team will have a home match against Universitet-Yugra

December 6, 2024
In the 11th round of the Fonbet Super League Zenit-2 will host the basketball club Universitet-Yugra from Surgut. The match, which will be the third consecutive home game for Oliver Popovic's squad, is scheduled for this Saturday in St. Petersburg.

After a third of the regular season, the guests are in 10th place in the standings. Over their last five games, Artem Olkhov's team has secured just one victory — but what a win it was. In the penultimate round, Universitet-Yugra defeated CSKA-2 at home with a score of 89:75. Heading into the final quarter, the teams were tied, but in the last ten minutes, the hosts delivered their best stretch of the game and clinched the victory with a 14-point advantage.

The most productive player for Yugra in that game — and throughout the season — was point guard Egor Bestuzhev. On average, he scores 12.3 points, grabs 2.6 rebounds and dishes out 2.1 assists in 23 minutes per game in the Super League.

The teams have met each other four times, and at the moment there is parity in this confrontation — 2:2.

The head coach of Zenit's reserve team, Oliver Popovic, shared his thoughts ahead of the game against Universitet-Yugra:

Despite the fact that they lost the last match, Ugra has been playing very well in recent weeks. They have an experienced team, they throw a lot of three-pointers and have a lot of players with great shots. We have to be at our best in defense. I hope, as in the last game, the fans will come and support our guys!

The match will take place on December 7 at the Zenit Basketball Academy (Severnaya Road, 12). The game will start at 18:00 St. Petersburg time. Admission is free for all fans, and the match will be broadcast live on the Russian Basketball Federation’s website.
