The second team of Zenit achieved a confident victory in Tambov

November 10, 2024

Zenit-2 played an away match against Tambov as part of the 7th round of the regular season in the Fonbet Superleague. The advantage that Oliver Popovic's team gained in the opening quarter allowed them to secure the victory.

Surprisingly, just like the main Zenit team in today's match against Avtodor, the reserve team also started their game with four long-range shots. Vladislav Samukhin hit once, and Daniil Aksenov made three successful shots, showcasing his mastery in this area. With a "+13" lead early on, the St. Petersburg team continued to dominate the game and had their most productive quarter — 18:28.

In the second quarter, each side took turns responding to their opponent's attacks, but these small runs didn’t allow the hosts to close the gap. By halftime, the score was 31:43 in favor of Zenit-2.

Both quarters in the second half ended with slight advantages for Tambov, but it wasn’t enough for them to challenge for the win. The wolves cut the deficit to 5 points several times, but the leaders of Zenit-2 always responded in those moments. For example, in the final stretch, the captain of the St. Petersburg team, Elkhan Akhmedov, made two consecutive long-range shots, thus stopping the hosts' rally. The final score of the match was 81:88.

The top scorers for Zenit-2 today were Daniil Aksenov (27 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal), Elkhan Akhmedov (24 points, 14 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals) and Vladislav Samukhin (12 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal).

The next match for the blue-whites team will again be an away. On November 13, Oliver Popovic's team will face CSKA-2 for the third time this month. The game will start at 19:00 St. Petersburg time, and the broadcast will be available on the Russian Basketball Federation website.
