Alex Poythress: “Hopefully we will win the League again”
Zenit centre Alex Poythress has arrived at the club. The player shared his emotions about his return and recalled former victories in St. Petersburg. Read more about his goals and objectives for the season in our conversation.
— I feel good. A little tired, but I’m happy to be here again and ready to get back to work.
— What was the first thought that came to your mind when you landed here? Maybe some memories..
— Oh yeah, we’ve got a lot of good memories. First of all we won the VTB League, even though the pressure was so high. I spend two great years in Zenit, hopefully that the third year would be as just as good.
— How did you spend your summer?
— Working out, hanging out with my family. Just normal stuff.
— Was it a tough decision to become a Zenit player again?
— No it was not tough at all. You know what I mean, I love Saint Petersburg. Xavi is still here, me and him have a really good connection. And the fans are great. So I’m happy to be here again.
— After leaving Zenit what changes in your personality have you noticed? At least we know that you became a dad..
— Yeah, I became a father, so I guess I’m a little bit more calm off the court. On the court I’m still the same. It should be good.
— Zenit Basketball Club celebrates its 10th birthday tomorrow. What would you like to say to the fans?
— I appreciate the fans, appreciate they are always supporting us. The two years I was here and other years. Hopefully this year It will be the same.
— You won the VTB League with Zenit two years ago. What goals do you set for yourself in the upcoming season? Are you still hungry to win trophies?
— Hopefully we will win again this year. I think Zenit made a great team this year. Hopefully we’ll top the bottom and will be able to compete to win the Championship. That is what you want to do. We have the talent to do it, so we just got to put it together.
— What are your plans for today?
— I’ve got to get my family settle into my apartment and stuff like that. And I think tomorrow I’ve got medicals.
