Dmitry Kulagin returns to Zenit
Zenit Basketball Club and Dmitry Kulagin have agreed to terms on a new deal. The Russian guard has signed a three-year contract that will keep him with the club through the end of the 2028/29 season.
This will mark Kulagin's third stint in Saint Petersburg. He previously played for the Blue-White-Sky Blues during the 2014/15 season before returning to Zenit from 2021 to 2023, helping the team capture its long-awaited league championship.
Kulagin was born on July 1, 1992, in Moscow. He began his basketball journey in CSKA Moscow's youth system before moving to Nizhny Novgorod, where he gained his first professional experience. He later went on to play for Triumph Lyubertsy, Krasnye Krylia Samara, Zenit Saint Petersburg, CSKA Moscow, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, and UNICS Kazan.
Throughout his career, Kulagin has represented some of Russia's top clubs and won every major domestic basketball trophy. His achievements include three VTB United League and Russian Championship titles, two Russian Cups, as well as EuroLeague and FIBA EuroChallenge championships. Representing the Russian national team, he also won the gold medal at the 2013 Summer Universiade.
During the 2025/26 season, Kulagin captained UNICS Kazan to a runner-up finish in the WINLINE Basket Cup. In eight tournament games, he averaged 11.6 points, 5.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 0.8 steals per game. He also helped UNICS reach the VTB United League Finals. Across 50 league appearances, Kulagin averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.9 steals per game.
