Aleksander Sekulic: "We controlled the game from the start"

Zenit head coach Aleksander Sekulic commented on the emphatic victory over Krasnodar’s Lokomotiv Kuban (98:69) in the 16th round of the VTB United League regular season.

— For us it was a very important match in several reasons but the most important one was that we want to keep growing, we want to show the way that we are improving, playing better and we controlled the game from the start. So far they playing good basketball, they were close to win CSKA at home. They have same big matches, big wins. It is great job by the coaching staff, the way we prepared the game, the way the assistant coaches did their job. But the most important thing that makes me happy and gives encouragement for the continuing of the season is that so far we had every game big ups and downs. Now we limit these downs to minimum and hopefully we can keep on continuing and growing as a team like this.

— Andrey Vorontsevich scored 10 points in the last match and he had a lot of rough work. In this match, unfortunately, there were no points, but there was also a lot of rough work. How do you like to work with Andrey Vorontsevich? What kind of player is he for you? Especially considering that your predecessor said that he dreamed of working with this player.

— I mean my predecessor for sure know what he's talking about and I can say at the same. Vorontsevich is a guy who have amazing career, many titles and he knows what it takes to play in correct way to win games. So he adapted the situation and the impact he has on the team is huge. Even though today he didn't score. It's not about scoring, it's about winning the games.

— Did you expect Lokomotiv to play tougher in the fourth quarter than in the first three, especially against the guards? Do you think it would have been worth resting Neno and Trent?

— I mean we would rest players if they're tired but I don't think we are trying to also pay attention to the minutes the players spent on the court and nobody passed this 30 minutes limit which I think it's also important during the season. Decisions that we made at the end were mine. I decided to play with this line-up because I think it was the best for this team.
