Zenit-2 will host Tambov on home court

February 11, 2025

Blue-whites reserve team returns to home court. This Wednesday, Zenit-2 will face Tambov in the 23rd round of the Fonbet Super League regular season.

For the visitors, the end of December and the beginning of January were unsuccessful — Oleg Igumnov’s team suffered seven consecutive defeats. However, they managed to turn things around in their last three games: at home, they defeated Magnitogorsk’s Metallurg (84:72) and Vladivostok's Dynamo (80:79), though they lost to Irkut in the last round (64:73). Currently, Tambov holds 15th place, the second-to-last position in the standings, with 7 wins and 15 losses.

Despite their league position, Tambov has standout individual players. Center Denis Vikentiev is not only the team’s top scorer (12.7 points per game) but also the Super League’s leading rebounder (8.7). Guard Serdar Annaev is one of the league’s top playmakers, averaging 6.6 assists per game.

Head-to-head history favors the visitors: in five Super League meetings, Tambov has won three games, while Zenit-2 has claimed two victories. This match presents a great opportunity for the blue-whites to even the score in their rivalry.

Zenit-2 head coach Oliver Popovic on the home game:

Tambov defeated Vladivostok's Dynamo seven days ago. This means they have a certain level of quality and experience. We need to play at our best. We are still fighting for the playoffs and a better position in the standings.

The match will take place on February 12 at the Zenit Basketball Academy (Severnaya Road, 12). Tip-off is at 18:00 St. Petersburg time. Admission for all fans is free. The game will be streamed live on the Russian Basketball Federation website.
