Zenit U21 takes revenge on Uralmash-2 in the second match
The youth team of the blue-whites played two away games against Uralmash-2, thus concluding their January road series.
The first game was won by the hosts, 79:71. The best performers for Zenit U21 in that game were Pavel Logunov (16 points + 1 rebound + 1 steal) and Timofey Komissarov (15 points + 8 rebounds).
The following day, the St. Petersburg team managed to take revenge, leading for most of the match and securing a 69:75 victory. The top scorers for the blue-whites in the second game were Alexander Porotnikov (18 points + 4 assists) and Pavel Logunov (15 points + 1 rebound + 1 steal).
Roman Knyazev, Zenit U21 head coach:
We approached these games completely out of physical shape. We made an enormous number of uncharacteristic mistakes, which a motivated opponent instantly capitalized on. I must give credit to our opponents — they’ve improved significantly during the season and are showing quality basketball. For us, it’s about returning to our optimal form and regaining our game. I want to wish Gosha Mordvinov a speedy recovery. We’re looking forward to his return!
Pavel Logunov, Zenit U21 Guard:
The trip was very tough. We traveled from Perm to Yekaterinburg, and before that, we had back-to-back trips to Saratov and Samara. In the first game, we had major problems in defense, which is why we couldn’t win. In the second game, all the guys were in the right mindset. While we were unlucky in many episodes, we ultimately secured the victory.
In the next round of the VTB United Youth League regular season, the blue-whites will host UNICS-2 from Kazan.
