Alexey started playing basketball after a coach noticed him during school competitions. At first, he didn't enjoy it, but later he became passionate about the sport and took it seriously. After moving from the Nizhny Novgorod region to Moscow, he began training at Sparta and K and later joined Triumph. After the club disbanded, he signed a contract with Zenit.
