Alex Poythress to continue with Zenit!

July 4, 2026
Center Alex Poythress will continue with Zenit for the 2026/27 season after both the club and the player exercised the contract extension option.

Poythress first played for the Blue-White-Sky Blues from 2020 to 2022 before returning to St. Petersburg in the summer of 2024. The upcoming campaign will be his fifth season with Zenit.

In his debut season (2020/21), Poythress helped Zenit reach the EuroLeague Playoffs for the first time in club history, finishing just one win away from the Final Four. A year later, he won the VTB United League and Russian Championship titles and was named the VTB United League MVP of February. During his time with the Blue-White-Sky Blues, the American big man has also lifted the Kondrashin and Belov Cup three times, while earning silver and bronze medals in both the VTB United League and the VTB United League Supercup.

Poythress currently ranks among the top seven players in Zenit history in games played, with 181 appearances. He is also one of the club’s all-time leading scorers, having totaled 1,822 points in Blue-White-Sky Blues colors.

Last season, Alex appeared in eight games before suffering a serious knee injury. After undergoing ACL surgery, he was forced to miss the remainder of the campaign. Having successfully completed his rehabilitation, Poythress is now fully recovered and ready to return to the court.
