Andrey comes from Trinta school, his first coach was Andrey Shigin. At the age of 15, Toptunov found himself in the Yaroslavl team Burevestnik and within two years, he progressed from the Youth Basketball League, where he was the main star, to the Superleague roster. His professional debut took place on December 23, 2019, in a game against Samara, and a few days later, Andrey scored his first points in the quarterfinal match of the Russian Cup against the Vostok-65.
In the summer of 2021, Toptunov joined Zenit by signing a 3-year contract with our team. In the same year, during the autumn, the guard became a silver medalist of the Supercup and a winner of the Kondrashin and Belov Cup as part of the main team. However, he spent most of the season in the United Youth League, playing for Zenit-M. At that level, Andrey earned the title of MVP of the month in October and later went on loan to Novosibirsk.
However, it was a short loan. On average, Andrey scored 13.2 points in 11 matches, and in the Russian Cup semifinal against Temp-SUMZ-UGMK, he scored 36 points, his career-high. In March, the guard returned to Zenit and, in that season, became a champion of the United League and Russia together with our team. Additionally, he helped our youth squad win the title in the VTB United Youth League, where Toptunov was recognized as the most valuable player of the Final Eight.
In the 2022/23 season, Toptunov won the Kondrashin and Belov Cup as well as the Supercup of the United League.
