Andrei Zubkov was born in Chelyabinsk and began playing basketball there. At the age of 18, he moved to Krasnodar and joined the youth team of Lokomotiv, which had recently relocated from Rostov-on-Don.
Over couple years, Zubkov won the Russian U23 championship twice and made his debut for Lokomotiv's main team. He played for Lokomotiv until 2017, during which time he also won the Eurocup in 2013 and reached the Euroleague Final Four in 2016. Zubkov captained the team in his final season and holds the club record for playing 270 matches.
In the summer of 2017, Zubkov joined Khimki, where he spent two years and won two silver medals in the VTB United League. He achieved gold in 2022 after joining Zenit.
