At the age of six, he started playing basketball at the Timiryazevskaya sports school. After sports school, he joined the CSKA youth project. He got his first professional experience in Nizhny Novgorod, with which he rose from the second division to the Professional Basketball League. Dmitry spent the next three years of his career at Triumph and Red Wings. These three years, the defender played not only in the Russian championships, but also on the European stage – the FIBA Challenge Cup. Kulagin played the 2014-15 season with our Club. In 26 games of the United League, Dmitry scored 10.8 points and made 3.5 rebounds on average per game. In the Eurocup games, Dima's performance exceeded 10 points per match. In July 2015, he moved to CSKA Moscow. In two seasons as a member of the army, he twice became the winner of the VTB United League and once became the Euroleague champion. Since the age of 16, Dmitry has been involved in performances for the Russian national teams. As part of the Russian student national team, he became the winner of the Universiade in Kazan in 2013. Dmitry's achievements: Symbolic five of the European U18 Championship (2010), Symbolic five of the U19 World Championship (2011), the winner of the Universiade in Kazan (2013), the second symbolic five of the European Cup (2018), the most valuable player of the Final Four of the Russian Cup (2018), the best in the defense of the VTB United League (2018), The best young player of the VTB United League (2014), participant of the VTB United League All-Star Match (2018, 2019, 2020).
