Alexander Shcherbenev was born in Russian city of Krasnodar and it was here that he took his first steps in basketball. The guard went through the entire training system of the Lokomotiv Kuban sports reserve, starting with the youth team. Shcherbenev made his debut for Loko in the 2017/18 season, becoming the winner of the Russian Cup. And he played in VTB United League matches for the first time in early 2019.
For nine years, until the end of the 2023/24 season, Alexander remained in the Krasnodar’s system, of which he spent two years on a business trip to Superleague clubs Spartak Primorye Vladivostok (2019/20) and Uralmash Yekaterinburg (2020/21).
In 2024 Alexander joined Zenit.
