Andrey Vorontsevich: "You have to stick to your plan without regard for the advantage"
Zenit forward Andrey Vorontsevich shared his emotions after the home victory over Astana (96:59). The player spoke about how a large lead affects the team in the final moments of the game and noted some mistakes during the match.
— First of all, thanks to the fans for coming. There were quite a lot of them, which is nice. Everything went well, [the game] was good. We missed many open shots today. Some of Astana's plays that we had prepared for led to turnovers. Nevertheless, we won by a large margin. Everyone got a chance to play. I'm really happy that Egor showed some improvement in this regard, we've been trying to encourage him and support him. Today he played well. So, we won, and thank God, a victory is a victory.
— Plus 37 points. Doesn’t that make you relax at the end?
— No, actually it doesn’t relax us. The thing is, when you have such a big lead, you often think about doing something extraordinary, trying to create something special. And it doesn’t always work out. What we practice should be more reliable. That’s why there are some turnovers, because everyone thinks, "We're ahead, so I’ll try to do more". It doesn’t always work out, and it looks like a bit of chaos from the outside: we’re trying to run, but sometimes we make mistakes. So, I don’t think it relaxes us, but probably everyone in their minds thinks, "I can do more". You just have to stick to your plan and execute what you’ve prepared.
