Zenit-2 will play against Metallurg at home
Our opponent returned to the second most important basketball tournament in Russia after 13 years of absence. Previously, the Ural team has repeatedly won Super League medals.
In the offseason, Metallurg has significantly strengthened with players, including those with experience playing in the VTB United League. Magnitogorsk's leaders are forwards Nikita Remizov (15.2 points on average per match) and Maxim Karvanen (14.2). Earlier Remizov defended the colors of Tempa-SUMZ and MBA. Karvanen also managed to go through the teams of the Zenit system, and also represented Avtodor, Pari NN, Rusichi and Universitet-Ugra. American center Isaac Copeland also joined the guest team this season.
The Uralians approach the sixth game of the regular season with only one victory, which took place last Tuesday. Dinamo Grozny, another debutant of the Fonbet Super League season, was beaten 82:74 away.
Now, Metallurg occupies the thirteenth place in the standings, and Zenit-2 is on the second line. This meeting will be the first head-to-head confrontation for the teams in history.
Zenit-2 head coach Oliver Popovic shared his thoughts before the match:
Metallurg plays fast, everyone makes good transitions: both tall and low players. After the away win, of course, they come to us full of confidence. The second half against Chelbasket is how we should play defensively and offensively.
We invite all fans to the match, which will be held on November 1 at the Basketball Academy (Severnaya Road, 12). The meeting starts at 18:00 St. Petersburg time. Admission is free. The video broadcast of the game will be conducted on the website of the Russian Basketball Federation.
