Denis Zakharov: “We will try to prepare as much as possible”

October 8, 2024

The guard of the blue-whites, Denis Zakharov, told about how the team reacted to their first loss of the season and the mood going into the next home game against Pari Nizhny Novgorod. Read more in our new interview.

— How difficult was it to cope with the first loss of the season?

— We understood that this loss would happen sooner or later. There are many games ahead. The main thing is to see how we react in the next game. We watched the video, focused on our mistakes and hope to correct them. It’s clear that there will be losses, and not just one. But we will try to fix our mistakes so that we can approach the final part of the regular season in the best shape.

— What are your expectations from Nizhny Novgorod? Did you manage to watch at least some fragments of their game against CSKA?

— Yes, we’ve already looked at the scout video and we basically watched the match because they played the day before us. They are a good, fighting team. They have kept a core of Russian players and have good foreign players, so they play quality basketball. We will try to prepare as much as possible.

— Do you have an understanding of how to stop Dawkins? Is he a pronounced leader or is it more about team work?

— Of course, they have pronounced leaders, but we will try to stop them through team actions as a whole, rather than focusing on any specific player.

— In that match, two of your future opponents played. Are you keeping the competition with CSKA in mind? Are you already thinking about the upcoming trip to Moscow?

— No, we focus on each match separately and do not look too far ahead. First, we need to try to win at home in front of our fans and then we can switch our focus to the next game.

— What would you like to say to the fans who will come to the stadium expecting a victory after the loss?

— I probably don’t have any wishes, just to ask them to continue supporting us. As I said, there will be losses regardless. We will try to react and win the next game.
