Zenit will participate in the 2024 VTB League Supercup
The four strongest VTB League clubs of the 2023/24 championship and two foreign teams will play in the pre-season tournament. In addition to the blue-whites, among Russian members there will be CSKA, UNICS and Lokomotiv Kuban, as well as the current champion of the Adriatic League and the Euroleague member Crvena Zvezda (Serbia) and the EuroCup member Besiktas (Turkey).
Zenit is defending champion of the Supercup. Xavi Pascual’s team reached the finals of the tournament all three times, twice St. Petersburg took the trophy.
In 2021, the first draw of the VTB Super Cup Zenit took only silver. In the semis our team defeated UNICS Kazan (83:76), but in the finals they lost to CSKA Moscow (73:81).
In 2022, Zenit started the Cup with a defeat from Krasnodar Loko with a 1-point difference (73:74), but then the blue-whites beat Partizan (81:65) won the group. Eventually we faced CSKA in the final and got a big win (71:70) thanks to a crazy three-pointer by Thomas Wimbush at the end.
Last year, Zenit beat Turkish Besiktas in the quarterfinals (72:69), then we coped with Nizhny Novgorod in the semifinals (86:61), and beat Lokomotiv Kuban in the main game of the competiton (85:83). Kyle Kuric became the MVP of the Supercup, scoring 23 points in the final. Bojan Dubljevic also entered the symbolic five, as well as Zenit coach Xavi Pascual won the title of the best coach of the tournament for the second year in a row.
