Luka Šamanić: "We wanted to start aggressive and control the rest of the game"
Zenit center Luka Šamanić shared his impressions after the away victory over Pari Nizhny Novgorod (72:88) in the VTB United League. In the recent match, the Croatian player became the top scorer for the Saint Petersburg team and set a new scoring record in the Blue-White-Sky Blues jersey.
— Big win on the road. That’s three in a row away from home — how would you describe the team’s mindset right now?
— We've been away from home for almost 10 days and we're just happy to get a win, go home and prepare for next week.
— It’s you best game for Zenit so far. An all around performance. You finished the game with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, 37 efficiency. How are you feeling?
— I feel good. We got a win, so for sure I'm happy.
— This is a hockey arena, so it can feel a bit cold. In the NBA, many arenas are shared too. Did it feel familiar to you?
— Yes, by now I think we are all used to playing in this arenas. Sometimes it's a little bit cold, but I think with good warm-up and preparation, we are ready to play every time.
— The team started strong and built a double-digit lead early. How key was that opening stretch for the rest of the game?
— We wanted to start aggressive and control the rest of the game. I think that's what we did. We made some mistakes also, but it's the game. And I think the most important thing is that we got the win and we get to go home now.
— You were very efficient inside and also stepped out to hit shots. How comfortable are you right now in this role?
— I just like to create a mismatch. If there is extra defenders on me, I like to pass to others to shoot and score. And then if I'm open, I'll also take a shot. So just winning the game and helping the team get a win.
— With all remaining games at home, how confident is this group heading into that final stretch of the regular season?
— I think we're playing really well, we're working really hard and now with the addition of Jhonny, I think the team is complete. We're going to listen to the coach and play as hard as possible the next couple of games, especially with the Final Four coming up.
— Yes, soon we gonna have home WINLINE Basket Cup Final Four. What do you expect? The semifinal will be against CSKA.
— I expect great atmosphere, I hope a lot of people are gonna come and watch, and support us. And I hope we get a win.
