Vladislav Emchenko: “Samara’s players have system and a huge desire”
Zenit guard Vladislav Emchenko shared his expectations ahead of the game against Samara and highlighted the visitors’ strengths. The round 25 VTB United League matchup will take place on February 1 at Zenit’s home court. Tip-off is set for 13:00 St. Petersburg time. Tickets are available.
— How did the preparation for the game against Samara go?
— We broke Samara down in detail. Discussed their strengths and weaknesses, the main sets they run. Watched video. We’re ready for tomorrow’s game.
— What makes the opponent dangerous first and foremost?
— Sometimes it’s harder to play against teams that aren’t considered favorites and are near the bottom of the standings than against top-four teams. The reason is that there’s no pressure on them — nothing is expected — while we might loosen up a bit. Samara has a system, and their players have a huge desire. On paper, we’re stronger, but that has to be proven on the court every single time.
— There are four home games ahead. Do you expect a full arena tomorrow already?
— It’s an early Sunday game. I’m sure a lot of people are looking forward to sleeping in after a work week — some might just be waking up at 1 p.m. Either way, I’ll be truly grateful to everyone who comes out to support us at CSC Arena. We’ll be happy to see everyone, and we promise to deliver exciting, entertaining basketball.
