Zenit lost to Turk Telekom at training camp in Antalya

September 2, 2025

The Blue-White-Sky Blues were defeated by Turk Telekom in a friendly match during their training camp in Antalya. The game against the Turkish side ended with a score of 79:82.

The top scorers for Zenit today were Andrey Martiuk (11 points, 5 rebounds), Trent Frazier (10 points, 6 assists, 2 steals, 1 rebound), and Andre Roberson (9 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist) — for the American forward, this was his debut game for Blue-White-Sky Blues.

Forwards Artem Antipov and Pavel Zemskiy, as well as farm team center Ilya Krivykh, did not take part in the game.

Alexander Shcherbenev and Georgy Zhbanov shared their post-game comments about the match with Turk Telekom and highlighted the positives.

Alexander Shcherbenev, Zenit guard:

Actually, it was a pretty good game. We showed character — we were down by more than 10 points, if I’m not mistaken. We came back into the game but lost at the end. I think we have things to work on. That’s why we play these friendlies: to build chemistry, fix mistakes, and clean up our game. I’m sure this loss will only benefit us, we’ll learn the right lessons and get better. Not the best refereeing? Yes, I agree. But that’s something we can’t control. Let’s leave that to the fans and those who analyze officiating. In Turkey, refereeing is usually like this, so we just need to keep our composure and focus on our own game instead of the officiating, because different situations can happen, and the main thing is to concentrate on what you can control.

Georgy Zhbanov, Zenit forward:

Overall, the team was stronger than the previous opponent. This is a serious EuroCup team that will be fighting for top spots, so it was interesting to see how we’d perform against a stronger opponent. Of course, when the coach left the court, it gave us an emotional boost — we felt we had to play for him too, so that the technical fouls weren’t in vain. What can I say about the next game? Besiktas is even more aggressive than Turk Telekom. We’ve known coach Dusan Alimpijevic for a long time, his teams always play very tough. He’s like the European version of Evgeny Pashutin. So the game will be even harder, with more physical contact. We need to be ready, and of course, we want to win.

The friendly match against Besiktas will take place on September 4 at 17:00 St. Petersburg time.
