Zenit FC turns 100 years old
On May 25, 1925, football teams were formed at the Leningrad Metal Plant, marking the beginning of the history of one of the greatest clubs in Russian football.
Over the past century, Zenit has come a long way, becoming one of the most decorated and respected football clubs in Russia. Rightfully regarded as the pride of Leningrad and Saint Petersburg, Zenit's history is not just a series of sporting achievements — it is a reflection of the spirit of the times, strength of character and the loyalty of its fans.
Today, Zenit is an eleven-time champion of Russia and the USSR, holder of six Russian and USSR Cups, nine Russian Super Cups and the Russian Premier League Cup.
A particularly significant chapter in the club’s history came in 2008. Zenit’s triumph in the UEFA Cup was a landmark achievement for Russian football. On May 14, Zenit defeated Scotland’s Rangers 2:0, and just three and a half months later — on August 29 — claimed the UEFA Super Cup by beating Manchester United. These victories are forever etched in fans’ memories and have become a cherished part of the club’s great legacy.
We congratulate Zenit FC on its centennial anniversary — a milestone for the entire city of St. Petersburg. We wish the blue-whites continued success and a confident march forward to even greater victories!
