Dwayne Bacon named 2024/25 VTB United League Regular Season MVP

May 16, 2025
Zenit forward Dwayne Bacon has been named the Most Valuable Player of the 2024/25 VTB United League regular season.

This marks the third individual award for the American basketball player in Russia — he was previously recognized as the MVP of March and was also included in the symbolic five of the 2024 Super Cup. Before Game 5 of the semifinal series against Lokomotiv Kuban, the award was presented to Dwayne by the United League's CEO, Ilona Korstin..

During the regular season, Bacon appeared in 42 games, averaging 16.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 0.8 steals per match, with an average efficiency rating of 14.4. Zenit became the regular season champion of the VTB United League for the second time in its history, entering the playoffs on an impressive winning streak. Including the quarterfinals and semifinals, the blue-whites extended their run to 25 consecutive wins, setting a new League record.

Bacon’s performance played a crucial role in the team’s race for the top spot in the regular season. In the playoffs, he continues to lead his team to victory, posting the best stats among all semifinalists after seven games: 21.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1 steal per match, with an efficiency rating of 23.4. Dwayne shared his emotions after receiving the award and expressed his gratitude:

First and foremost, I want to thank God. This award wouldn’t be possible without my team. Like I’ve said before — they trust me, they believe in me. Every time I step on the court, I may be just one of five, but I play with the passion of ten.
I’m incredibly grateful to Zenit and Coach for allowing me to be myself and for accepting me for who I am.
Thank you, VTB United League. It’s been an unforgettable year.
