Trent Frazier: "We just did a good job in the second half, getting the momentum and pulling the game"
Blue-whites' guard Trent Frazier in an interview with Zenit TV commented on the victory over Astana (86:63) and also shared his emotions from the February MVP award in the VTB United League. In the last match, the player scored 14 points, as well as completed 5 assists and 1 rebound.
— First of all, Trent, congrats on this win. This was the first time when VTB United League recognizes you the MVP of months. Have you been waiting this for a long time?
— No, not really. I could really care less about being the player of the month. I mean, thank God. I'm blessed, obviously, and honored to be able to be selected for this award. It's not easy to do, but I could not do this without my teammates. We've been playing really well, really great basketball as a team. We've been on the run, and that's all that really matters as long as we come out every night and play great basketball together. Play hard and win games. That's what's really important. I think we're headed in the right direction, we got to continue this momentum and just continue to have fun and win games. So, of course, thank you VTB United League for voting me, it means a lot. So yeah, thank you.
— Have you already discussed it with Xavier Moon, who has been the MVP of November?
— No, I mean I just found out today, it's all new to me. So, I mean my focus is really on the game today to come out here and do our job. I thought we didn't really play at our high level today but it's always important to get away with the win. That's important like I said to continue our momentum and continue to prepare for big games.
— Tell please was it difficult to play against the last ranked team and to get prepared for this game?
— It's hard to play against anybody in this league. I think from every team from top to bottom is has a good team. Obviously, each team varies with power of power. But I mean, that's a good basketball club over there. Obviously, they're still trying to find a way but they have good players, good coach, they play really hard. So it's always tough to play anybody on VTB United League every team comes in ready to play hard and fight. So I thought today those guys fought for four quarters and gave us our best shot. Like I said, I thought we just did a good job in the second half, getting the momentum and pulling the game, winning the game.
— The game was pretty intense in the first halfю What did coach say during the halftime?
— We weren't playing to our high level. We had a lot of miscues on defense, sloppy, we weren't focused. And that's what led to game being really tight in the first half. Like I said we got to do a better job just coming out here being mentally focused for four quarters and that's the whole goal — come out here and put four quarters together every game no matter who we're playing. We just got to continue to come out here be better come practice every day. Mentally focus and prepare for each game.
— Today is the first day of spring. Do you feel optimistic?
— I'm still waiting for some sun. Usually I would say in the spring, you know, usually there'd be a lot of smiles on my face if I was in Miami. But It's first day of spring and I see some snow out there. So there's a problem. So I'm just waiting for some sun. And once I see some sun — then I feel great.
— CSKA got a win over UNICS. Did you try to follow this game?
— We had a game ourselves, so I didn't really get to watch. I think, you know, our goal right now, our mindset right now is day by day. Whoever's on the schedule next up, that's who our mindset is at. So next we have Samara, and, you know, when we meet CSKA again, then we'll go to them. But as of right now, we're focused on our next opponent, and that's Samara. So we got to come in mentally focused, preparing for these guys. Like I said, no game is easy. We know those guys gonna come all the way in here and fight and be ready to compete for four quarters. So we got to do the same. So that's our next mindset.
— We suppose, you know about the national holiday that is now in Russia — The butter week (Maslenitsa). How much pancakes did you eat this week?
— None, I didn't eat no pancakes. I don't eat pancakes.
— What do you think about the latest Lie Detector video featuring you?
— I didn't like it. I don't like it when they exposed on me. They lied on me, so I say we take it down and delete it (laughs).
Thank you Zenit fans for coming out tonight. Showing your support, you guys brought a lot of energy, helped us in that second half. I never count you guys out. You guys always bring a lot of energy and passion. So thank you. Can't wait to see you on Wednesday against Samara. Let’s go!
