Dwayne Bacon: "In every game we have to play the way it was in the second half"
In an interview with Zenit TV, St. Petersburg team forward Dwayne Bacon gave a detailed comment on the game against UNICS (92:83) and explained the reason for the unsuccessful segment in the second quarter. In the last match, Dwayne became the most productive player on the court, recording 30 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
— Dwayne, congrats on the big win over UNICS and what does it mean for you?
— It means we've taken a step in the right direction. They had two games up on us, they come in and they try to play hard. They play hard, they're a well-coached team, they play to the last the buzzer. But we came out and started off slow in the second half, I mean the second quarter, but we came back in the second half and just fought and showed what this team is about. And that's what we have to do every game what we did in the second half.
— Once again, you scored 30 points against the Kazan team. And how would you rate your own performance tonight?
— I missed a couple shots. So, you know same thing go back to the drawing board. This is what you put in all that work for. This week, since my shooting has been particularly not as good as I want it to be. I've been putting in a lot of extra shots and I just got to continue to do that. Can't get complacent because I had a 30-point game. I got to continue to do that continue to bring that joy to the team.
— Zenit started game very well in the first quarter, but then we had some trouble in the second. What was the reason?
— We just got comfortable. We got comfortable with turning the ball over they got. They that's their best attribute when they can get out get make people turn the ball because they pressure so hard make people turn the ball over and get out and run and that's what they did. So we came back in the second half clean that up at halftime and got the win.
— What coach said you during the halftime? So you made a comeback.
— He just… I am not gonna tell you exactly what he said but he gave us a great speech to make us come out here and play as hard as we need to play.
— Zenit broke the 16 game winning streak of UNICS. Did it motivate you before the game that you have to beat them?
— Yeah, we knew it's a battle for the first spot so we knew we had to come in and fight hard. You know, we were all like basically tied for the first spot. So we wanted to just come out and play hard and that's what we did.
— We noticed that you had some kind of trash talk with a Jalen Reynolds. So what did you say to him?
— Just competing. Just competing.
— How do you plan to spend the break during the championship?
— I plan to get some rest, get back in the gym, see my family, see my kids, and just enjoy it. It's gonna be a pretty long break, so enjoy it and come back ready to make that playoff push and get comfortable for the playoffs.
