Alexey Shved is at Zenit!

January 18, 2025

Zenit Basketball Club is pleased to welcome Alexey Shved, one of the most experienced and titled Russian basketball players, to the team. The 36-year-old guard, who combines the skills of both the SG and PG positions, has signed a contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Alexey Shved was born on December 16, 1988, in Belgorod. At the age of 16, he began his professional career with the local team Burevestnik, from which he moved to CSKA Moscow in 2005. Shved spent the next 7 years with the "army" club, going on several loan spells to Khimki and Dynamo Moscow to gain more playing time. During his time at CSKA, Alexey won the Russian Championship four times (2007/08, 2008/09, 2010/11, 2011/12), the Euroleague (2007/08) and the VTB United League (2011/12).

At the end of the 2010/11 season, Shved was named the Most Improved Player in the Russian Championship. That summer, he won the bronze medal at the EuroBasket with the National Team. A year later, the guard and the national team repeated their success by winning a bronze medal at the London Olympics, after which Shved signed a contract with the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves.

In his first two years in the NBA, Alexey played 140 games (16 as a starter), became a key player for the team, and participated in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge. However, during the 2014/15 season, following several trade deals, he played for three different teams — the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets and New York Knicks.

In the summer of 2015, Shved returned to Russia, joining Khimki, the club where he had played early in his career. With the Moscow region team, he became a three-time vice-champion of the VTB United League (2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19), was named MVP and top scorer of the EuroCup (2016/17), and also led the EuroLeague in scoring in the 2017/18 and 2020/21 seasons.

In 2021, Alexey returned to CSKA. In his second spell with the club, he helped win silver and bronze in the VTB United League and the Russian Championship, as well as the Supercup.

Over the course of his career in the VTB United League, Shved participated in four All-Star Games, was named MVP of the All-Star Game in 2020, and was awarded the title of Player of the Month in the regular season seven times.

There is no doubt that Shved is the tournament’s main scorer. He has scored a total of 4313 points and made 1311 assists — both absolute records for the league. Additionally, Shved has surpassed 30 points in a game 24 times.

Since the 2023/24 season, the guard had been playing for the Chinese team Shanxi Loongs, but he left the club on December 7, 2024.

Now Alexey is in St. Petersburg. Welcome!
